Sit Safe

Therapeutic Seating and Positioning Pathway

Clients who have or are at risk for developing contractures, abnormal postures, skin breakdown, or falls are appropriate candidates for a “Sit Safe” evaluation by a physical or occupational therapist.  Clients who could benefit from a power mobility device (PMD), such as a power wheelchair or scooter, also benefit from physical and/or occupational therapy interventions to ensure such a device is appropriately recommended, fitted, and trained.

The process for determining and acquiring the appropriate seating/mobility system is usually coupled with traditional physical and occupational therapy interventions to maximize the client’s functional and physical abilities.

Each client is assessed using a variety of tools which help a therapist determine mobility and functional baselines and potential for improvement.  The treatment plan is determined by the therapist and is specific to each client.
